There's a four-person team in the middle of Manotick Main Street that seems to do a bit of everything — coffee shop, bar, bakery, and now a full Sunday market. All of it traces back to one business: 692 Coffee and Bar.

It Starts With 692

Co-owners Danielle Porteous, Charlie Cullen, Jessica Cullen, and Laura Glasper met at a running club more than five years ago — Glasper and Porteous used to lead a Manotick-based fitness club called inStride Running on the side. They took on a heritage building halfway down Main Street and spent so long renovating it that the "coming soon" sign became a running joke around town. 692 finally opened in October 2019, and the name is exactly what it sounds like — most Manotick phone numbers start with 692 after the 613 area code.

Then Came Scrummie Scones

Upstairs from the café is where Scrummie Scones gets made — fresh-baked scones that have built a genuine following of their own, alongside the café's in-house sourdough and daily bread. It's the kind of detail that tells you this isn't a business coasting on one good idea; everything at 692 is made from scratch, on site, by the same small team.

And Now, The Lot

The newest addition is The Lot Manotick — a Sunday farmers market the four owners built in 692's own back parking lot. It runs every Sunday from June through Thanksgiving weekend in mid-October, bringing together local vendors, prepared foods, and artisan crafts from across the Greater Ottawa Region. Live performances from Josh MacFarlane, known locally as 692's Sunday singer, keep the patio going all afternoon. True to the café's own tagline, The Lot exists for the same reason 692 does — because at this place, strangers really do become friends.

Coffee, sourdough, scones, a full bar, and a Sunday market they built themselves — 692 has quietly become one of those places that does a little bit of everything, and does all of it well. They even host a Summer Open Mic Night — the next one's Thursday, July 30, 7:30–10pm, with a mixed drink and a Reuben on offer for anyone who wants to come sing (or just watch). Manotick Main Street wouldn't be the same without it.
